I was curious to know if anyone is running Microsoft Vista yet? If so, how do you like it? The only bad thing I have heard about it is that Ipod cannot work with it, which I don't care because I am a PSP user. Anyone heard anything else?

theres a big security risk in the voice activation, because it recognizes voice commands malicious sound files can be be used to delete files. it is basically xp again only its been graphically tarted up, but the few people i talk to who are using it dont have any problems yet :good:

I use it on one of my machines nukeonekitty, it looks great :good: but as for support of hardware, your own software and device drivers it would be best to give it some time.

I would try and avoid it for as long as possible.

The business version was hacked within a fortnight of release so that once you set up a Vista server you could install as many copies as you wanted without licenses.

Then there is the voice command weakness as mentioned by Smurfy above.

Now we find that Microsoft Anti-Virus software fails the Virus Bulletin test. The article there refers to M$ Live OneCare, though it shares its scanning code with the tools that make Vista 'more secure than ever'.

The only programs I am aware of that don't work ideally with it are iTunes and.... MSN. How M$ can create a new OS that won't allow their own messenger service to run is beyond me.

I have never had a problem with XP so maybe I will just stick with it. As for Mac... I just can't get into those things... I feel if I use one I need to be dressed like a metro sexual and be in a coffee shop in NYC. I do nothing with photography or anything like that so they have no selling points worth my while.

i wont use vista till the second service pack comes out

I plan on getting vista eventually, but since I can only run home basic (I wish I had gone for a laptop with a better graphics card...) I'm going to wait until I get my 2GB of ram before I get vista. By that time I'm sure it will be just as safe, or safer than xp.
I would never buy a mac, way too expensive, less games and much less ability to upgrade parts.
Or get Linux. Same kernel, far cheaper. And it's easier to upgrade your hardware without spending a fortune. Open Source is the future.
I've avoided linux as my main OS because I'm too used to windows, I play PC games with friends and I need to use various MS apps for school work.
However depending on how successful vista actually is in the next few years, I will look into linux again.
I've had good experiences with SUSE in the past....

Suse is great  and other flavours of Linux are not far behind, but its got to XP for the main OS.....for the moment :shifty:

Does anyone know of a Vista preview? I kind of just want to see what it looks like and the desktop and well as start menu looks.

Had vista, and got annoyed with a bunch of things and just was not as slick as i would want.

I have moved to gentoo now though.

I've heard that it doesn't run well in systems with less than 1GB RAM, yet stores are packing it into 512MB systems everywhere. The 512MG systems I'm seeing with Vista are slower than mollasses in January. Not good. Other issues have been pointed out as well. I'm probably going to wait on this one until the bugs have been tweaked and I can upgrade my RAM to at least 1GB.
