I just bought a bottle of Myxazin from waterlife. On the bottle, it said 75L tank use 2.5ml med. Then it says:
"use on days: 1,2,3,4&5 add once a day for two days when introducing new fish" what does this mean?

say I have a tank 75L, then I add 2.5ml myxazin everyday for 5 days? do I have to change the water everyday as well ? if yes, how much should I chang and how much med should I add? Or, I do not change water in these 5 days, just add myazine 2.5ml everday to the same tank same water??

for introducing new fish, what does add once a day for two days? does that mean, I add 5ml instead 2.5ml Myxazin into the tank, then only add on day 1,3, 5? and no water change during these 5 days?

many thanks

i think its a five day course
so you add it three times over five days
like 1 3 5 no water changes till the course as finished other
wise you are defeating the object

Hi

First, are you sure on the doseage? On my bottle I'm sure it says 3ml for 45l?

When you add for new fish, it's meant as a preventative thing in case the new fish have a disease. That's why you only add for 2 days coz you may not necessarily be treating anything. and no you don't double the dose or anything, just a normal dose as directed on the bottle. Some people think adding meds as a preventative is stupid though.

Secondly no don't change the water whilst you are medicating. Or if you do then you have to replace that amount of med. So say you change 50% of the water then you have to add back half a dose of med, if you change 25% of the water then you have to add back a quater dose. Really I think it's easier not to change water atall in that time.

Myxain is good stuff. Though I'm convinced one of my Honeys is alergic to it! :(

Hallo Dingweding,

I also bought Myxazin from Waterlife last week.

I believe you ought to take out any carbon filters you may have before you begin the course of treatment as this simply sucks out the good stuff from the water once it goes in. Unfortunately I only found this out on day three of my treatment

Personally I would go about it the following way:

  1. Perform a water change first.
  2. Remove the any carbon media(if present) from filter.
  3. Calculate the correct dosage for your tank size.
  4. Start the course of treatment over five days without any water changes.
"Add once a day for two days when introducing new fish..." What this part of the instruction is suggesting is that when new fish are brought into your tank you need to add one dose (e.g. 2.5ml) of Myxazin into the tank on day 1 and then again another dose on day 2. You do not have to add any more medication after the second day. Myxazin has a dual use - One for treatment of disease already in place and the other as a prevention of disease associated with introducing fish from one environment into another. This has nothing to do with the initial 5-day treatment.

Hope this helps clears things up for you? Hope your fish get better soon. I'm new to this and have lost three fish so far . I would be interested to know how effective your course of treatment was, I am currently treating one Tetra, and a male guppy for fin rot brought on by suspected fin nipping

thanks a lot guys. The one I used is called professional version, thus the dosage may be different from standard version ones.

The reason I am worried about water change and add new med is becasue med normally will not be effective after one or two days. and when you treat ill fish, clean water normal helps a lot.

to sum up,

for ill fish: 5 days course, add 2.5ml med to 75L tank every day for 5 days, no water change, on day 6 do a big wc.

for new fish: 2 days course, add 2.5ml med to 75L tank every day for 2 days, no water change, on day 3 do a big wc.

am I right?

BTW, do I have to cover the tank when I treat the fish? as I know many med are sensitive to light, thanks

No, no need to cover tank when treating with these meds.

Also, on day 6 you don't need to do more than 50% water change, then replace your carbon sponge back into the filter and this will remove any residue medication from the water.

Myxazin is very effective usually and you should notice some difference after a couple of days. What are you treating for specifically?

It can also be used to sterilise your nets (especially good if you've used the net to remove any dead fish), other tank equipment, live food and new plants.

Some people don't have a quarantine tank for new fish, so adding Myxazin for 2 days can be done to reduce the chance of a bacterial disease due to the stress caused from the new fish being moved about/handled/new environment/adjusting to your tank water etc. A lot of new fish suffer stress and end up with illness, so the idea behind this is that you help eliminate the chance of an outbreak of disease at that time.

It's a personal choice - not everybody bothers to do this.

I am using it to treat my newly import wild altum angels. they start to have finrot. finger acrossed they can recover..

What I did not know about Myxazin until recently is that it is capable of sorting out mild/"early days" internal infections, as part of its chemical composition is like Sterazin, but it is not anywhere near as toxic.

Sterazin still has its place, but Myxazin is regarded as a good broad spectrum treatment.

Yes, I agree, it's super stuff! In fact the whole Waterlife range has something to offer - and now they even have a brand new one out for parasites (like anchor worm) called Parazin which apparently kills them off very quickly! Not had to use it yet (fingers crossed I never do but if that situation arises I will def try it). Their products have never let me down in the past, though.
