I bought my tank and equiptment used and I dont know what kind of filter this is. It has no markings or anything on it that tells me anything. It has a green sponge that I rinsed out and it now looks new but is still green. I think its supposed to be green :p also has a compartment with carbon in it. You can slide the output up or down to make it go fast or slow. I've looked around on like a bit and cant find the exact one.

Thanks for looking :)

Think it looks like an interpet filter possibly the duo range

Thanks! looks like its an INTERPET IPF-2 DUO FILTER cheers for your help!!

I might need a bigger one, going to read into it more, but you helped a ton thanks!!

yup, I have the IPF-1, looks very very similar, pretty much the same (could be the same)...

I also have an eheim about the same size, never used either...

How do I know for sure? I want to make sure that I have enough water moving through it to make sure its big enough for my tank. Guess I have to do a flow test some how?

Right I grabbed mine out. Compared it to your pic. And the bottom bit (with the sponge in ) looks smaller on mine. So you could well have the next version up.

This one is rated for 170lph. So for 5 times turnover that would be a max of a 34 litre tank. Not sire what size tank you have but I'm guessing the version up would have higher flow rate. I would imagine a 40l tank would be absolutely fine.

Hope that helps a bit.

I have an 80 liter tank. If this filter that I have is the 2 then its rated at somthing like 450lph. so that shoudl be sufficient I guess. Although thats the manufacturer's rating. I here they usually do that empty with no filter of media in. I'm thinking about running a test to see if it will work. I think I had trouble getting it started if it wasnt fully submerged. Maybe once I get it started I can raise it above water and fill a cup for 15 seconds and test the flow rate?
Might do a test with everything in it ie the sponge and carbon. Then one with carbon out, then take the sponge out after that just for some science. I'm outa of town till sunday so maybe on monday I can make some progress.
