I have been offered a job at a local pets at home, the man is unsure when I can start but he informed me that I need to do some obsticles.
He said that I am given one on the first day, if completed I get an extra 20p an hour, then over the months I get about three more obsticles which brings it upto around £4.90 p/h.
I'm pretty sure he doesn't mean jumping over stuff, even though that would be cool to do :hey:
Has anyone else had these "obsticles" given to them if they have worked in pets at home or some similar lfs?

Well I saw someone being trained at 'Petsathome' in Lincoln, and they had to clean out the tanks, and catch fish quickly and effectively, while the manager was watching them - so this could be it?

At least one employee at Pets..... will be armed with a bit of aquatic knowledge then.

I think some of the other tests are disposing of dead animals in the dumpsters round the back.

Come on mate, was the necessary? Yes pets at home may be lacking in knowledge of proper care for animals, specificly fish. But he's just asked a question, and you come out with a sarcastic answer. :/

In the UK, I'd be dissappointed if there wasn't a sarcastic comment.

It's all in good fun. If you can't take the public's response, don't put it in a public place...

I personally nearly choked on my yoghurt while reading it.

All fish places end up with deads. It's just one of those jobs that you have to do.

yeah fair one consp, but if you seen our local pets at home and a few others close by, youb be shocked im sure, My local place dont know ####, I asked them once for the 2 female mollies and they said you cant tell the difference with fish.
Dissapoiting, very dissapointing

But anyway good luck with the interview, i hope you get the job and with some good knowledge like i reckon youve got i'd demand more than a meesly £4.90 an hour.

I didn't think there were particular sections in Pets@home? I thought if you worked at pets@home you covered all aspects of the store and not just fish?

For £4.90 per hour what year was that thought minimum wage was £5.50 or £5.05. The National Minimum Wage has increased again in October 2005

The minimum wage is a legal right which covers almost all workers above compulsory school leaving age. There are different minimum wage rates for different groups of workers as follows:
The main rate for workers aged 22 and over. On 1 October 2005 this rate was raised to £5.05 an hour, from £4.85

The accredited training rate for workers aged 22 and over who are receiving accredited training in the first six months of a job with a new employer. On 1 October 2005 this rate of the minimum wage was raised to £4.25 an hour, from £4.10.

The development rate for 18-21 year olds. On 1 October 2005 rate of minimum wage was raised to £4.25 an hour, from £4.10.

The development rate for 16-17 years olds. This rate is £3.00 an hour.
the more detailed bit is from the goverment
