Well so far I have been running bio-wheels on two of my tanks which include both salt and freshwater. Both are low noise and low maintenace. Great filters really.

I have a penguin biowheel. It trickles a lot, but that's probably just because of my tank. Not a lot of additional noise. Much quieter than my Whisper.

I have a penguin 350 bio-wheel, just got it recently, and am amazed at it. it comes with 2 tight fitting cover pieces and with my very tight fitting hood i literally dont hear a noise. I use those 350's on three of my tanks and they are very quiet. They perform well and aren't bad for adding extra filter media.

I've been using Marineland Penguin 330 BIO-Wheel filters on my 27 gal. and 39 gal. tanks for 8 years now and I love them! These are the older models now, but I see no reason to upgrade to the new models. Replacement parts, if ever needed, are still available on the Marineland website as well as many local pet stores.

They work wonderfully, as far as I am concerned. I am quite happy with the fact that I don't need to buy the costly packaged replacement filters, I can use plain filter pads cut to size. They're very quiet and there's rarely any maintenance besides rinsing the filters.

I'd definitely recommend these.
