ok so im looking for centerpeice fish for my 280L 65gal planted tank so far what i got in it are 3plateus cory 6 Otos and 3 yoyos im going to be getting some tetras as a nice schooling fish but im gonna want a few larger fish something people will want to look at my gf wants some discus but i dont think i can handle them seem really picky so tell me what you think i should get

Good call on the discus, they are very picky and whilst some people can make them work in a community setup, most can't - I know I'll never try.

If you go for the bigger tetra's - rummy noses, bleeding hearts etc - instead of neon's, you could look at angels. Some flavours of gourami get to a decent size, and I've heard of festivums being kept in community tanks before.

I'd think about maybe 10 barbs as well, tigers are known for being a bit nippy but there are others that look lovely and are bigger than your normal schooling fish.

There are other options which I'm sure others will post up. I'm sure someone will suggest GBR's (which are great fish) but which I think are abit too small to be considered 'centrepiece' fish in a tank of that size. Worth having anyway though, they're one of the most beautiful and interesting fish I've owned.

GBR? what about rainbows i heard there a lil like the ugly duckling ugly at first then real pretty later on i was thinking about neon tetras mixed with head and tail or cardinals i think i want the fish to get to maybe 4 or 5 inches

i would only be able to get one bkg is what im finding and reading about them i should put them with eels???

I'd recommend a very overlooked and very personable SA cichlid. Check out Festivums... I absolutely love our's. Another similar fish would be a keyhole cichlid. Both about as "community" as angels or gourami IMO.

i am really getting into the idea of bkg if i do get him will i still be ok with tetras and wich ones and i think
festivums would be nice to i dont know what to do wich are better in a planted tank

not if you want to keep the tetras lol

it will eat anything it can fit in its mouth

somtimes people get away with it others dont

i think gouramis would be your best bet, unless you get rid of the tetras, or get bigger ones.

also with a BGKF you would probably need to rehome him after a while, they need about 75gl fully grown

it is all down to personal preference

if you want a center fish these tend to be bigger than most and in the fish world what ever will fit in my mouth is my supper

their are other fish to go for fire eels are odd and can grow large

a nice big pleco could be a nice center peice

or go for a lot of shoal fish

will give a better look to the tank than just 1 big fish imo

in that tank, this is what i would do:

discus
gold nugget plec
cardinal/rummy nose tetra

or

angels(pair)
pearl gourami's
wcmm(will look great in heavily planted tanks, plus they are as hard as nails :)

good luck

Centre piece, def angels, they look so graceful and are practically indestuctable. For your shoaling fish, with angels,I's go for a larger size tetra or they could be dinner, though some folks report no problems.
Congo tetras are stunning,as are diamonds, and as mentioned before, rainbows are beautiful.
