Hi, i am thinking of changing my sand to gravel. I am looking at some fine black substrate.
Has anyone got black gravel in their tank? and what does it look any good?
thanks

| have black gravel in my malawi tank and yes it looks very good only downside being anything shows up on it. I had black sand in my 5ft tank and it made the whole tank seem too dark! :/

I used to have black gravel when I bred Shrimp. It looked pretty good to be honest. The only problem I thought was that it looked a little shiny. It was not gloss shiny, but it still looked a little unnatural. I now have black sand in my new temperate river set up and that looks very good. I always prefer sand though as it is easier to clean.

Black substrate looks great and it highlights the colour of the fish....

I have black quartz sand in my shrimp edge tank, looks nice IMO.

I've got black sand in my chi and I like it.

I recently changed to black gravl from natural brown substrate and was really pleased as the green of my moss just seems to POP out! Which I love.

Its all a matter of taste. My other tank has normal colour sand and it looks i suppose more trendy modern, the black gravel makes it modern but mellow.

I have black gravel in 2 of my tanks.
Initially I liked it, but it does show up all the poop.
The plus side is the plants & fish stand out on it

I have black gravel in my 10 gallon, river rock in my son's 20 gallon & a black sand/black gravel mix in my 36 gallon.

I like the sand/gravel mix the best of those. I plan to use natural colored sand in my next tank, another 20 high. I like variety.......
