thinking of getting argos play sand for my tank but just want to know what it looks like and should I take my fish out when putting it in

thanks in advance

I dont have sand in my tanks but not Argos brand.

It would probably be best for the fish if you take them out while putitng in the sand, depending on the species of fish. Guppies are pretty demented and will insist on swimming through the casscading sand looking for food, corydoras catfish have a great time snuflfing through the sand once its on the bottom of the tank.

Also make sure you turn you filter off while adding the sand. you really don't want to suck up sand into your filter.

Here's what it looks like in one of mine;

(apologies for the plec poop!)

I would definitely strip the tank down for changing substrate; I've done it fish in, and it's not great. Even if you're good about gravel cleaning (I assume you have gravel atm?) you'll be shocked at the amount of crud stuck down there...

looks good how many bags do u think I will need for a 180l tank

One; I did two four foots with one bag (although it was a bit thin in the second tank!).

this is not on topic but will clown loaches eat plants

Can you use sand from a beach or would you recommend argos?

I wouldn't use beach sand; it would be very difficult to ensure it was free of pollutants, especially when you consider how cheap playsand is; £2.99 for 15kgs at Argos.

My partners 300l Planted with Argos Play Sand :)

I used argos play sand in my edge today, just have to make sure you give it a good clean in a bucket before you add it to the tank.
Looks lovely now tho!
