Anyone ever seen a guppy with a tail like this?

I thought at first he had the crowntail gene...

But now I think...

Is it a random genetic mutation?

If so, that's really awesome! I wanna make more of these!

By the way, his brother can be seen in the video. They look a bit alike, his brother has a slightly tattered tail but not this super spiky.

Your male is a socalled swallow guppy. That's different from a crowntail guppy.

Well. I won't buy me new fish until the weekend of November 23rd/24th. Then I'll be partpating the Vivarium 2024. I've been busy today with labeling the small containers which I'll use to offer my livebearers. Also made some new cards with all the information of my fish.
After the Vivarium 2024 I'll go to my AF (Anonymous Fishaholics) meeting... 🤪

That's pretty cool! Never heard of these. Are they like, rare or something? Really sought for? I'd like to make more of these. Will the tail strands grow longer? (Time will show tho)

And what about his brother? Why does he have a more normal (still tattered a little bit) tail? Or just his swallow genetics aren't as strong?

Well, we don't know the genetic background of him and his brother. If both came from a mix, the genetic background of both parents are in play. This specific male has the swallow gene by one of his parents and his brother is just lacking this gene or he carries it recessively.

Swallow guppies have existed for a long time already. But nowadays, they're more incorporated in show guppies than in commercial bred breeding forms. This fin type is not rare. But in the current market of ornamental guppies, the commercial trade is not really picking up on them anymore, simply because the majority of households prefer the delta and fan tail guppies over the swallow guppies.

if the tail will become larger depends on his age and genetics.

These guppies look really cool, I’m not sure if they’re crown tail because usually crown tails are more separated. Here’s my crown tail guppies.

Oh I see, I'm not good at these things so I really do appreciate your explanation.

I see. Have all guppy strains and fin types existed for a long time then?
This guy's an endler, perhaps endler and reg guppy hybrid. So that makes him a really unique guppy I've seen.

I got my guppies off an eBay seller (he's really good), and asked him specifically for fry (so I can mix their strains and genetics from parents x kids etc) and mix of regulars and endlers. So I guess I got a REAL (if you know you know lol) mix

Crowntails are beautiful too!
I just like guppies so I keep guppies, simples lol. I don't really care much for keeping specific strains or fin types. It's a bonus I got a unique boy :)

Can't wait for him to grow up!

Most of them. Crown tail guppies however are a result of the past few years.

Well, phenotypically it's more a fancy guppy rather than an endler. But for sure, he's not a pure endler anyways.
