Is anybody elses Betta just too aggresive to put with any tank mates?
My male VT is a right little nutter, won't tolerate any tank mates i've tried yet. Pygmy Cories, Oto's, Dwarf Cichlids.

Does anyone have any suggestions as in what to trail with him? He's in a heated, filtered, planted 9Gal. The only thing he's in with is MTS's

James. :good:

It really depends on the betta, some are fine with tank mates, others are just downright intolerant.

I am tempted to trail something else with him. Its a real shame, because I really want something else in there with him.

I was even tempted to put him in a tank with 4 species of tetra, don't know how that would work. They aren't fin nippers though.

i have a beta in my 120l community tank with 12 harquline rasboras, 5 glowlights and 7 vairous cories and dosent bother any of them i havent seen him flare once no once not even chase or nip a fish just looks completly unintrested, Hes been in there 2 months now and loving it always swiming about loves the low current. not lost a fish in there yet.

My male Tyr is a total monster. I had 4 dwarf corys in there with him and had to remove them the day after I got him  He's been known to even try and attack moths outside of his tank. Tyr is kept strictly on his own :p I wont even try snails with him.

Yeah, two of my boys would be a definite -no- to tank mates simply by how they react to mirrors instantly, there are also a couple that would care less what environment they're in. The rest are uncertains, but they're all in separate tanks atm.

I might try him in the Tetra tank in the next few weeks. So I can use his 9 gallon as a breeding tank :shifty:

I actually added some tank mates to my Betta's home today, 2 Nerite Snails, 16 Ghost Shrimp, and to Otos he chased the shrimp and otos for 30 min or so but has since given up and now they are all just chilling. I'm assuming he'll eventually get the shrimp but everyone has enough room and plants to stay hidden and be out of each others way. So far 4 hours into the new tankmates, all is well.

I have a snail in with mine; when I first got it he didn't notice; after 24 hours he looked at it; gave a 10 second flare (at most) and doesn't care now. He does look at it occasionally but otherwise he doesn't mind. He's taken more offence at the algae wafer for the snail; now that got looked at when it first went in; again now he doesn't mind lol

Sen is too aggressive to put with fish but tolerates ADFs.

Personally, I don't keep my male bettas with tank mates, especially not stuff like dwarf cichlids

If he's proving too aggressive for tank mates, don't push the issue. Take the hint and let him be on his own. It's a total myth that bettas are "good community fish", despite what certain retailers would have you think. Some can tolerate tank mates but many are too aggressive or get too stressed.

Latest:

I've aclimatised him into the Tetra tank and so far so good. I understand this is new territory for him to get his head round, so no aggression shown yet. Im keeping his tank running incase anything happens in the short run. We'll see in the next few days wether he will show his true colours or not, but good stuff so far. :good:
