indian almond leaf is a natural plant found in the bettas wild environment, and when these leaves and others fall from the trees into the water they decay an create "black water". this has proven to help stimulate spawning and just generally make your bettas super happy; iv always boiled mine. one large leaf makes a fairly strong gallon of tea, i used to keep it in the fridge and add it as needed to my betta's bowl, but it's also not too bad of an ice tea (seriously)
