Comical reading though regarding the reporters comments about IAL.

"He adds four Indian Almond Leaves to a bucket of boiling water and then leaves it for a day before pouring the liquid into his 400 l holding tank. I was eager for Ray to explain what i thought might have been a trade secret"

Yeah right, you cant tell me that a reporter of such a prolific mag has NEVER heard of IAL hehehehehee

indian almond leaf is a natural plant found in the bettas wild environment, and when these leaves and others fall from the trees into the water they decay an create "black water". this has proven to help stimulate spawning and just generally make your bettas super happy; iv always boiled mine. one large leaf makes a fairly strong gallon of tea, i used to keep it in the fridge and add it as needed to my betta's bowl, but it's also not too bad of an ice tea :D (seriously)
