My daughters Early Head Start Program's (Pre-Preschool) director has told the teachers they have to have a fish tank. Unfortunatley, she doesn't seem to understand that the fish have to be fed daily. What kind of fish are easy for them to take care of and can stand not being fed everyday. (No one available on the weekends and vacations.) Do those weekend feeders really work? Will they work with Mollie fry or even adult mollies?

As of now they have aprox 20 mollie fry. The mother died after birth and I brought the male adult home to keep the fry safe especially during the weekend.

You should see the kids and how excited they all are to see baby fish in their tank! I offered to do anything and everything I can to help them. And now, I need your help.

I just used one of those vacation feeders (14 day) while I was gone over spring break for a week. It fed two platies, a molly, and a dwarf puffer. They were all happy and healthy, even the puffer. And no one had shredded fins from the puffer being hungry. :) I think it probably would work for fry because the pieces of food are pretty small. You just need to have a good filtration system to take care of any uneaten food.

Yeah, that should be good. I just had a mini Penguin for my 10 gallon, and everything was fine. I'd probably suggest putting in enough "vacation feed" for a few extra days, because the 14-day feeder I got was almost gone after 9 days. Maybe my fish are just pigs.

The Mollies are a good choice. I wouldn't even worry about them not being fed for two days. Keep the temp in the middle seventies, and their metabolisms won't be as rapid.
