,recently ive bought 2 gravel vacs that are battery powered in the last 4 month, both have lasted no longer than 6-8 weeks, they were only the cheap £10 ones so werent so expensive, but if they going at a ratio of 6/8weeks this is no good, does any no of any decent ones on the market that are reliable(manual sphion no good),and are the pump powered ones any good?

why are syphon ones no good i have been using
them for years even in the early years when
you some times even got a gut full of tank water
 which was quite funny at the time but these
new ones all you have to do is place them in the water
juggle it up and down a bit and the syphon starts itself
as for the powered ones there a waste of money i find you use
them once put them away go back to use them the next time and there
all corroded and wont work

Good ol syphon gravel vacs :) Just stick it in the tank and either wiggle or suck the end for a second and your away. Simples.

oh right,my tank stand only takes my tank about a foot and a half off the ground,i got told with it being solow to the ground, a syphon vac wouldnt work as most tanks are high off the ground,is this true,or have i been misled?

It will syphon whilst ever the level of the end of the syphon is below the one you're syphoning from.
So your tank will be fine to syphon from.

or buy one of the Biorb manual pump syphon. I have had mine for about 3 years and have tried loads of other gravel vacs, but always come back to the good old biorb vac.

I got a gravel vac that has an automatic starter, all you do is shake it and it starts to syphon. It was about..$10-12? and so far has worked wonderfully. Think its a lot easier
