hi, i'v just ordered a brand new interpet river/reef 50 tank, which i got for a fraction of its retail price.

I just found out this is becuase the protein skimmer doesn't fit into the tank

its 94litres (25US gallons or 21UK ones) and is a really good set up, with two very effective internal pumps hidden behind a false backing where all the hardware is

basically, i know that i have a tendency to do things wrong sooner or later, and i think a protein skimmer would be crucial, especially in a nano ank and especially because i will probs sooner or later hav a dwarf lion (fu manchu) in it, with all the pollution problems that that entails.

in short, what im asking for if anyone can suggest any good, compact protein skimmer, ideally one tha'll fit inside the tank itself, as it is a compact unit and so an external attachment is not practical.

any help would be much appreciated, as i want to do this right and don't want to risk losing anything that could have been prevented easily

cheers

Or one of the HOB deltec ones would do the trick and means not having to put much in the tank (though you may have to modify the hood if you have one).

cheers everyone for your advice, i decided to get the V2 nano, os TMC is rally nearby and i get on well with my LFS, providin them with good kribs etc, that i got it at trade price :) so all good lol

thanks again

how did you get on installing the skimmer ?-ihave this tank and im looking out for a suitable skimmer for it?

IMO..most of the nano skimmers are worthless. Water changes are still best...and I agree with the above about the AquaC HOB...if at all, you could skim intermittently or as needed. Personally, water changes, water changes, water changes. SH

hiya,

v2 is working well, had to cut the front corner off've the hood, but so far strong tea skim as i set it up 2 weeks after set-up.

other than that, its a good compact design, once it beds in its quiet, much quieter than the fans in the hood.

it costs £49.99 from maidenhead aquatics@st albans

I'm going with the V2 Skim 120 Nano Skimmer. Read many a review before purchasing and it fits the bill perfectly. Small and not too expensive.

i wouldnt get any nano skimmer except the tunze nano if you dont have a sump.

Someone show me a loud, energy sucking AquaC that can pull this stuff out in a week on a medium stocked 20 gallon tank without and mods or surface skimmer or anything:

Heres what i get in a day:

Not sure about these on terms of time:

I agree with Musho. I have the Tunze nano and it skims incredible amounts daily. I is in a sump, but even when left for days, Ive never seen it overflow.

I don't skim...I have zero nitrates and one fish gonig on 3 1/2 years old. It's do-able. SH
