I would like a new addition to my tank in the form of a snake head!

current stocking-

1 oscar
5 sevrums
2 peacock eels
1 fire eel
1 senegal bichir
1 palmas bichir
1 ornate bichir
2 P. reticulatus (rays)
3 Geophagus surinemsis
2 Geophasus something, can't rember what it was now!!
1 L52 (i think)
1 red tail gold arowana
1 TSN
1 BGK
1 Hueta gar
1 apollo shark

although soon to go are 2 of the sevrums, apollo shark and TSN.

60x32x30 tank 200 odd gallons.

so suggestions for a ideal snake head species please.

and this is presuming they're even legal in your area...

there is no way on earth those fish are all in one tank. what group were you most seriously considering the snakehead for?

--edit--
HOLY CRAP YOU'VE GOT ALL THAT IN ONE TANK?!? :bows to the guts-meister:

Sorrry, not posting to be helpful, just to gogle at the nice tank uve got.......... Any links to a pics page or something?

Once the TSN is gone you might be able to get away with a dwarf species like Chana gachua or bleheri but i do not recomend snakeheads for community tanks, especially those with expensive fish.

There all quite small at the moment and were bought at the same time so they love each other!! No fights what soever apart from if someone trys to get the BGK's spot :grr:

If you do a search for my user name in members pictures loads will come up, there's also some videos i put up last night.

i was bored.... All My pictures topics

Bummer! I didn't think all of them were as agresive as some of the species. Might have to try one if i can find it cheap locally, over wise I won't bust a gut over it!!

cheers.

yeah they are illegal here :( But a fish store has one that is blue tinted and is 2 1/2 feet long that they are giving away for free if you have a 180 gallon tank. Im gonna go by there today to see if they still have it and take pics of it.

lol  a snakehead would eat all of that. PLUS they are ILLEGAL in america. They have been known to destroy pond ecosytems, then get out of the lake or pond and walk right over to the next one, and destroy that. Yes they can WALK!!! So yeah i suggest you stay a way from em.

Actually only a handfull of species can walk and only two species are capable of surviving in cold climate countries, Channa argus and Channa asiatica. Channa argus is the one that is famous for the Maryland pond situation. One of the dwarf species would be quite safe to add and would probably be in danger of being eaten its self.

Also since paul is in England i dont see what them being banned in America has to do with anything? The only fish that are banned here are coldwater fish (which includes Channa argus) and there are many species of snakehead available.

they get way to big and require too much food, they will also be so agresive as to steal the food away from your other fish in there :D

how would this one be?

CHANNA ORIENTALIS

I found it in a book at work today and didn't mention any agresion issues, gets to aorund 9" usually in aquaria and 12" in the wild??

Channa orientalis is a regional varient of Channa gachua.
