Any Ideas ?

what is the point of coming
on this forum and asking for
help or advice if your not going to
take any notice of it if you take
notice from where you got your fish
from they will be all dead within the
week or next few days as these people
are only interested in one thing PROFIT.
not the wellbeing of your fish the more that
die the more money they make out of you
hey but that is only my opinion but if i was
you i would listen to these people they have
forgotten more than most people know they are
the best of the best

:') i sort of got the point when one person posted it, why do youse have to comment more or less the exact post? to everybodies concern my (Precious fish) are fine. from mostly what i heard at the pet store i did not listern to them because i knew what i heard wasnt realy correct, thats why i came onto this forum to ask the queation (TO THE people that apparently know the answers) the question i asked was any tips to speed up cycle? and i got the answer along with answers i already knew. Then i got the comment about aquarium salt is not used for water chemistry ! anyway thanks for all of the above! :D

I am sorry but the only way that I know to speed up a cycle is to use material from a mature and fully cycled tank to seed your new filter. In my own case, I do that by cleaning a used and mature filter in a new tank. I can often get a fully cycled filter in about a week by doing that. Another approach that does work is to use some mature media in a new filter. That approach yields very short cycle times because the donor media is rich with the right bacteria. If you do not have access to a fully cycled filter, I am afraid that you will suffer through the entire time it takes to cycle your filter without a source of mature media. I hate to be the bearer of such bad news but reality demands that I be honest with you on the subject.

There is another option, getting tank water off a friend or someone to help mature your tank. The only drawback is it would carry parasites or diseases. But in the end i would be patient and let the tank mature by itself.
There are many posters on here and they including myself been down the exact road you are going down. But in the end patience is a virtue.

Hmm, the tank water would contain only the smallest amount of bacteria, so would not help much (although, I am sure at least a tiny bit).. if you have a friend, then getting their filter squeezings is more effective as the concentration of bacteria would be higher.

Thanks ^^, im nenly 4 weeks into the cyle now.. so i think i should just be patient :)

just keep it as it is cause if your fish are happy they will have fry soon and the tank will not look that empty

With only 4 weeks of a cycle under your belt, you are not yet cycled. Any addition of fish, even fry, means that you will need to be doing far more water changes to control ammonia and nitrites. Please do not add any fish until you have test results that show that your tank and filter are truly cycled.
