I have a 5 gallon tank that doesnt have a filter or a heater. I want to know if anyone has any ideas for it before I go out and just buy the betta I've been planning on getting. It doesnt have a heater because It usually gets hot in my room so the betta would be fine and I'd do many water changes. But if anyone has any ideas on some cool things i can put in there, post. Oh and please make it something kind of common. Kinda low on money as you can probably tell by the way the tank doesnt have a filter or a heater. I probably eventually will get a heater and sponge filter. But anyways try to help me out before this weekend because thats when I'm going to get my betta and then theres no turning back.

white cloud mountain minnows ;) dont know if they would get on with a betta but there cheap and cheerful easy to look after

They need a filter though.

The betta is the only thing that will work, as there aren't really any other fish that have a lyberith (sp?) organ that can live without proper filteration.

a few adfs... i kept 2 in a 3 gallon for about 4 years... no filter, no heater and no light, but it was in direct sunlight in daytime hours... just recently i moved their tank to a darker spot and i put a light on it, but not a very bright one and then i made the 5 minute sponge filter thing in the DIY section.. i think its pinned... so now i dont have to do 100% water changes oce every 2 weeks or so...

Yea I think I'm just going to get a betta. I would get some ADF's but since I dont have regular income seeing as I'm just 13 I'm worried about the expense of live food for the frogs. I will probably just stick to my regular plan of getting a betta along with some ghost shrimp unless anyone thinks the ghost shrimp wouldnt do good. But thanks for all of the help anyways. Oh and if anyone needs to get a cheap 5 gallon tank you can get one of the large plastic containers that come with a top that has holes and a clear plastic thing in the middle. Thats what I'm using. You can easily put a filter on the side along with a heater and what I do for light is get a lamp that has the bend connected to the base and put that over it. Hopefully It will work good. And this summer I'm gonna get a filter and a heater. Just thought I'd add that.

You could try triops, i just bought the kit from a local walmart for $3.00 (US). They are something different and I wanted to try them, there is some info on them in the forum plus here is a great link.

Triops

who said frogs need live food... get an old fish food container lid and put a few big pieces of gravel in it to make it stay on the bottom then just put 5 pellets of HBH frog food in there and they will eat that..mine have been living off of that forever
