I've been meaning to ask this for a couple of weeks now, but I keep forgetting. I just made a reply to my pics thread that reminded me of it, though,s o I figured I had better ask before I forget again. ;)

I got Angel as a Wal-Mart rescue about 5 months or so ago. He's such a beauty... he had a terrible case of fin rot. I got that taken care of, and he has just fourished! He hasn't been sick since, and he is probably the one with the most personality out of the whole bunch, and that's saying something because they all have their little attitudes. ;)

Anyways, he had a ventral that was all curled up... the only way I can describe it is this: Have you ever seen people whose muscles are so atrophied that their arms are all curled up next to their bodies and they can't move them, and they are contorted in odd positions? That's how Angel's ventral looked. Even when I got the fin rot taken care of, it didn't go away. It uncurled only slightly, but it was still all up next to his body. Well, a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that it has fallen off. It fell off right where the first bend was, so that all he has left now is a little stump. Otherwise he is happy and healthy, blowing nests, eating, flaring, all that fun stuff. :)

So, any ideas as to what would cause it to fall off? I don't think I have anything to really worry about, as it's been about 2 weeks and he is still healthy and happy, but I am curious. :/

Hmm... sounds like an injury or something that he has had for a long time. I'm guessing that the bend probably cut off circulation and this caused the surrounding tissue to die and make the ventral fall off. :dunno:
My Arbatel had a similar wonky ventral when I first got him, but it completely straightened out after a few weeks so I guess it wasn't as bad as your guy's.
