Any ideas on what fish this is??

I caught this fish when i was carp fishing once. I thought it might be a goldfish but they don't get this big. It doesn't look like a koi either. Any ideas??

Dam it I wish i weight and measured it at the time!!! It could have been a record goldfish

Yes, goldfish and crucian carp hybridise quite readily.

That one looks pure goldfish to me though.

How interesting. It's a very pretty fish.
My dad used to fish for carp when he was a kid, and has said before that occasionally they would catch a really nice orange one. In saying that, it looks very goldfish-like to me.

What I meant is that it looks more like a goldfish that has been released than a wild carp that happens to be more orange than the rest.

What it makes you realise is how sad it is when people say "oh my goldfish did really well, it got to 3 inches and lived 5 years" Just shows what they are supposed to be like - we don't even reconise it as a goldfish
