I live in south UK where the water is rock hard and pretty alkaline, does any body know of any hard water tetras or shoaling fish that I could keep in my 250l tank?

I am getting 10 platys and probably some rosy barbs

All of these tetras encounter a GH of more than 15 in at least parts of their natural range, according to FishBase.

Nematobrycon palmeri and N. lacortei,
Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus,
H. sweglesi (Red Phantom),
H. columbianus (Columbian Tetra),
H. bentosi,
Black Widow (Black Skirt),
Glass Bloodfin (Prionobrama filigera),
Head and Tail Lights,
Silvertips,
‘False’ Penguins (T. boehlkei, the one that’s in the hobby),
X-Ray Tetra.

Most rainbowfish do well in hardwater.

Rosy barbs are from soft water and can get egg bound in hard water, or if kept in warm water all the time.

Well, a list of contenders has already been given. So, take your pick...
