hi all, just want someone to tell me what this fish is? im thinking snow white cichlid? he is usually white but obviously doesnt like the look of my camera :D he is rather aggressive when he sees movement outside the tank and turns black with a red tail, i have six in total in a 240L tank (this one being the biggest) also two 7"pleco's but they dont seem to bother anyone... anyway thanks in advance and i can try to get a picture without his black aggressive colours if needed.

Its not something I recognise off hand it looks very tilapia like though.

Hi its a mozambique mouthbrooder - quite a large growing fish in the wild but around 10 inches on average in a tank. They are a type of cichlid and a relative of the tilapia so all close on that call :)

They are usually a food fish rather than a pet. Can be quite aggressive but in a group its usually manageable. I think your tank is a bit small for all those fish in the long term, you want either a large 5 foot or a good sized 6 foot tank - a 5x2x2 or a 6x18x18 would be good just so long as its over 100 gallons :)

thanks guys, i do not intend on keeping them much longer as they are fast outgrowing my tank as willis pointed out, also i dont have room for a bigger tank (if i could i would) my son seems to like them as they change colour often, any idea on their value?
thanks again!

They are not that common but then again they are not that popular - if you took them to a shop maybe £20 for the group - maybe a little more if you sold them privately. But like I say they are not that popular so will be hard to find homes for.
