....and in particular if you know how long Swordtail fry take to grow I'd be grateful.

Regards,

Rob

Ill let you know when i finally manae to keep some safe from filters and oher fish, lol.
My females just about to give birth anyday now and im prepeard with a breeding net!!

My sons swordtail gave birth on 21st January. They were kept in a breeding trap for about 6 weeks, they are now swimming free with the rest of the tank, getting on well but still quite small. "Mum" gave birth again on the 24th February but we let the fry take their chances, I have seen 2 of these fry in the tank this week and they look bigger than the 1st brood did at the same age. Hope this is of some help although I havn't exactly answered your question.

It all depends on what you feed them, how often you feed them, if you do frequent water changes, the size of tank you keep them in etc. I have some that at 3 months are as big as the adult fish and some at 4 months that were barely 3/4 of an inch long. For commercially raised swordies generally 3-4 months is when they start sexually maturing and they get shipped off to the pet stores.

sounds good, thanks for your input all

mine are growing by the day - feeding live brine shrimp hatched at home and crushed flake food

I'm feeding my current batch the same - it's amazing how fast they are growing. I know exactly what you mean - they practically grow right before your eyes.
