Any filters that need no pads

What do you have against foam sponge pads?

I use canister filters that just have floss and bio-max cylinders.

You can use any sort of medium in your filter as long as it is A- suitable and B- has a large surface area. Floss to polish the water before returning to the tank. This does not mean you have any less tank/filter maintaince, the media will still need cleaning on a regular basis.
There is no easy get out to cleaning the filter-sorry.

i only use biomax and subtrat pro...a bit of floss too.

so no. you dont need sponge
