Any chance of a dedicated Discus section?

I'm thinking of setting up a 2nd tank for Discus and was wondering if this forum would benefit from a seperate Discus section?

Afterall there's already chichlid, betta/gourami, catfish etc...


On a seperate note, I've been to several LFS's and none of them have had any decent books on the subject. Amazon.co.uk have several, can anyone recommend any of these?:

How many Discus could I keep in a 160L tank?

Adult Discus require approx. 10 UK Gallons each (45 litres), so you could fit 3 or 4 adults in a 160 litre. You could get a shoal of juveniles, up to 8, and sell the remainder when they get too big. Juveniles need to be kept in groups of 4 or more to prevent bullying.

We are willing to put in any species specific forum as long as it can get traffic. I haven't seen many Discus questions tho. You can put them in the Cichlids section, although I can't help much since I've never had them and have to go by info I've read.

You are right, there are some okay ones but the problem with those are that you need another forum to ask about other fish questions and such.


I believe I myself, and a few other members asked about a Discus sub-forum a while back and with no avail. I would love to see it happen, but as stated who knows how busy it will be.


A 42 USG tank is a little small, but you could try 4 Discus and see how it turns out, keep an eye on aggression.
