Just curious as the traffic in this section has slowed down somewhat over the years. There appears to have been a reduction in big tank owners and in oddball owners in general

Can you share your set ups and the fish kept in them

Simon :good:

Not many people really unfortuanltly:(

My tanks 281us G / 1062litres
Filtered by a 66us g sump, fluval/hagan fx5
Automatic water change system changing about 300 litres a day ( lucky i am not on a water meter :) ) Water change system can be changed to change anywhere up to 1500litres a day.

Current Stock
(if anyone is intrested theyre mostly for sale)

Midas Cichlid x 2 (juvi moved from my old tank, sold just awaiting collection)
Datnoides Campbelli
Polypterus Lapradei x2
Polypterus Congicus x2
Polypterus Weeksii
Polypterus Senegalus
Polypterus Oranatipinnis x 2
Panaque Nigrolineatus (royal plec)
Wild Oscar
8 large red tail tin foil barbs
Marbled Motoro Stingray

Biggest fish is my Polypterus Congicus which is 17-18inch and no doubt will continue to grow loads (gone from 12 inch to 17/18inch in about 6months)
Smallest is my Polypterus Senagalus

Cheapest is my Midas Cichlid's £5ish
Expensive is my Marbled Motoro £300 +

Ideal plan is for a pair of stingray's and a Trio of Large Florida gar's , i already have a florida gar and one ray so part the way there!

sounds fantastic Ben

I forgot about yours, I suppose theres only T1Karmann as well on here now who has a bigger tank and Bae as well

With all that water being changed daily do you think that increases growthrate of your fish?

In my Bichir#s i've noticed it , rays grown quick but its always been in this tank so cant say if it's helped or not.
The best part is the fact i have no maintance to do at all and can just enjoy my fish .

sounds very appealing!!!

Mines not quite as good, but hoping to get there soon :) Currently got 2 small setups with my collection split, untill I find a tank big enough to grow them up in. Looking for 6x2x2 or similar with a 2.5 footprint similar to yours Simon. Had one a couple of weeks ago that fell through, and not found the right one again yet, not gonna rush into it though.

The above 6ft tank is going to serve as a grow on tank for most of these fish, with a few, who aren't quite large enough for the big tank, becoming lifelong residents. The new tank is a design I will start work on soon, but will be around 9x3x3 - 12x4x3, depends on space. It will be within this range I think, and will be incorporated into us buying the next house, with a room specifically for this (Yes I have a very understanding young lady)

Currently;

2.5x2x2 - 62 gallon

3 x Pictus Cats (Will be Living in the 6ft for good)
1x Banded Knifefish (Undecided on this or the BGK for the big one. Depends if I want anymore Knives in it. The other is in the 6ft)
1x Lima Shvelnose (for the big tank)
1x Palmas Bichir (for the big tank)
1x Ornate Bichir (Big tank)
1x Thin Bar Dat (Big tank)
1x Silver Dat (Big tank)
1x Fire Eel (Big tank)
1x RTBS (6ft, poss stay in this)

Also a 2x2x2 roughly 50 Gallons

1x Datnoid Microlepis (Big Tank)
1x Blood Parrot (6ft)
3x Senegal Bichir (6ft probably)
2x Armoured Bichir (Big Tank)
1x Striped Gar (Big tank)
1x Hoplo (6ft, hoping to add a few more)
1x BGK (same as Banded)

As you can see, heavily overstocked. This is very short term though, and would have been rectified but for a tank breaking. Will soon add the 6ft and then after about a year, the really big one will begin.

the plans sounds cool Vinny

would love something similar if I ever sell this house and get a big old victorian one with lots of space

Its still my ambition to have a big clown knife, fire eel and big cichlid tank one day

Mine's just a plan still, however, getting the missuss on board was half the battle. Cant wait myself tbh. Want a load of big oddballs, but not real tankbusters so I can still have the likes of 1ft'ers in there.

ive just orderd 9x3x3 tank so i will kep you all updated also getting 3 fx5s in the deal £1000 my mate is going to do stand with breeze blocks plan to keep pacus and a rtc my bank loves me

Peter it sounds amazing...... no offence but why pacus? If I had a tank that sizetheywouldn;t be top of my list when theres peacock bass, arowanas big cichlids available etc

would love to house a big RTC one day they are truly amazing fish :good:

my 9x3x3 currently houses some true odd balls 1 common goldfish 7 shubumkins  keeping it ticking over untill i decide what to do i may go with a uk native with a perch shoal and such or maybe illget a pike :grr:

IF i can find someway of getting my 5x2x2 inside so it will hold the heat good enough for tropicals ive changed my mind a little i plan on a few cichlids and some oddbals. I would love a Knife of some kind.

If i cant get it inside thats what i plan on doing. A small group of Perch (Or ruffe if i can find them) and a big shoal of minnows and gudgeon. In a 9x3x3 i would defiantly go for a pike and an eel or 2.

yeah i was think a pike 2 eals and a couple of american crays

changed my mind know just going to get as many dwarf snake heads as i can in it i used to have a rtc in my 10 ft tank he was 26" like a true pet let you stroke him hand feed and belive it or not his best mate was a 5" jack dempsey he was a soft as a brush

I think that would look great. A shoal or roach or dace for the surface aswell although they might not be there once the pike gets big. I was doing some searching and aslong as its moving water (so rivers and streams not lakes and ponds) and isnt privately owned you can take fish to put in aquariums but you can never return them.
