Heaterordered the filter. So a 50 watt is good ? This one also is it a heater and thermoter in one?
oh and what would you do with it. A betta and cories? Or somin else

You can get silk/material fake plants that are soft and ok for bettas. Why not try real ones? They aren't too hard if you pick low maintenence species. Aponogentons would be ok, Cabomba is very easy to grow and has very soft fine leaves that are perfect for a betta. Java ferns and Java moss grow fine in low light too. Some Floating plants like some Salvinia natans can also look good. I have all of the above plants in my tank ( except java fern ) and my mothers betta loves them.

As for other inhabitants, I have mentioned all the ones I would put in there myself. I already have a 12 gallon with a Dwarf gourami and pygmy Cories in it ( second pic in my sig....just a bit of it anyway haha! ). It works very well indeed . As others have said, if you wanted something slightly unusual, then a dwarf puffer would work in there, but as far as I know they like to live alone.

Dwarf puffers are tiny on images! Well i'm no good with plants would i need anything except light and at the LFS they don't label the plants so i wouldn't ahve a clue which ones to pick.
Oh and anyway i really want a betta so betta with pygmy cories.

Oh and what do you tihnk bout the heater?

Yes you will need to get a light . for low light plants most people do 1 watt per gallon. So a 15 watt light for your tank would be fine. Get one that say's it is for tropical plant growth on the box.

If you click on the second image in my sig and on the betta pic...see that fluffy/bogbrush looking plant? That's Cabomba, and I mostly have just that in my 12 gallon. You could get a few bunches of that and mix with some fake silk plants if you want to start slowly with real plants. Cabomba is really easy to grow, just plant it in the sand and leave it, it get's tall and the betta can rest on it if he wants to stay near the top

. If you ask the people in the store, or better yet get a book or look at the TROPICA website, they should be able to tell you which plants are which if you want to know about them.

The heater looks fine.

get some nice real plants in there, my mums got a nano with some bogwood with java fern on, lots of many little live plants that have flourished and some small fish, it looks really nice, lasted over a year with no losses so its going well, this sort of set up would not only look pleasing to the eye but more natural you could also add japonica shrimp or soemthing for interest

is it not easier to go into an lfs and pick out everything you need and then find it cheaper rather than asking 200 million questions. am i right in saying you dont have a quarantine tank already?? if so then you are running such a big risk!!! elite stingray filters are crap. i think they are the worst internals IMO. i have a fluval 1 and 2 and they are ok. 15kg of sand would fill your tank several times over. shame i just sold one of my fluval internals yesterday.

No it's just a heater and thermostat ( keeps it stable ) The number thing on the front is just so you can see exactly what temp you have set it to. You should get a cheap thermometer anyway though to make sure it does stay stable. If the heater malfunctions and you don't have a thermometer, you won't be able to tell at once.

It should say on the light itself how many watts it is.

Edit: I have never owned a stingray myself, but many seem to have them and like them . I too have Fluvals and like them very much. I have an Eheim on my 30 gal though.

k i'll ger a cheap £2.00 one glass one. So filter - check
heater -
sand -
plants-
airpump - check
thermoter -
background - check
light - check
Is that all i need?

Is the heater stingray then

Airpump? If you have the filter you showed in the link you don't need an airpump. The heater isn't a stingray no. Nick was talking about an earlier post. Stingrays are a type of small filter ( not the one you showed )

yeah im sorta with nick, my first tank went absolutely perfect and ididnt even have the internet all the way back then, asking all these questions on here is fair enough but its all pretty basic stuff that not even an LFS could get wrong

It is true all the basic things can be found in any fishstore. I guess she was looking on Ebay as she may get it cheaper in the case of certain filters ect? £6.95 is pretty good for a basic little filter, cheaper than a Fluval and does the same thing . Looking at the links even their biggest model of that filter is under a tenner.

I no i'm a big worry bag but i really can't afford to get it wrong and waste my money as £23 spent on a £10 filter and then i find out it won't do. Airpump as i already got one with the tank for free so might as well use it. Anyway i have nothing better to do than thisYep on ebay as cheaper

even the crappiest of filters can do their job perfectly with regular waterchanges, i overfilter all of my tanks with strong eheims but i still do weekly water changes just to help it out, so if cheaper is easier for you it dosnt mean its gonne hurt your fish and most certainly wont hurt your wallet/purse

i would got to lfs, take a list of the stuff you need and write down the make of the product etc and the price, that way you can then beat the price on the internet and also you can have a touchy feelly with the product in the shop so you know what its like. i would get a QT set up asap becuase you know what can also come with the fish from the lfs!!!

i sooo badly need an external filter. but want to get one second hand if i can.
