new tank, 26L, just cycled.

Bought 5 Neon Tetra (breed) and 8 'wild' neon or Cardinal Tetra, still cant quite tell the difference.

lost 1 neon, then today I lost 3 Cardinals.

2 of the cardinals had I think fungus or 'fluff' on their body.

3 more are just in the corner, no visible dots, spots, 'fluff'

i put in min dose of Seachem Paraguard.

Any ideas?

One of you guys commented on another post that even a 10 mth tank is iffy for tetra........

Am I going to loose them all?

ammonia= 0
nitrite= 0
nitrate= 50
Temp= 21C
KH= 4
GH ....around 5
pH=7-7.2

How long have you had the fish?
I know the fish are small but your tanks slightly overstocked.
Tetra need a mature tank of 6 months.

What colour is the fluff. Does it look like white cotton wool?
Does the fluff go along the top fin and down the sides to form a saddle shape.
The red stripe on the neon does it still look vibrant red?
Any signs of gasping or laboured breathing?
Any signs of darting, or erratic swimming?

about 3 days
tank is new, just cycled.
bit like white cotton wool
no fluff on back, no saddle, its near the mouth and underside
red strip still good
a little gasping
no darting.....they were just laying there but i just put some micro pellets in and they are moving around a bit

Bought Seachem Paraguard and did a minimum dose of it.........maybe its working
I'll see what happens tomorrow

would stress do that? I did move them into tank then out then into tank.....

It sounds like columnaris which can be fetched on by stress.
Did you match temp of water when you moved them?

tried to as best I could, left in bag, 15mins, add bit of tank water, 15mins, bit more water, 10mins, more water....10mins then moved them in......not keeping bag water.

another died, but the other 2 in QT is swimming around now and eating.

As Wilder says, maybe I should stay away from tetra for a couple of months at least

Guppies, 1 dwarf gourami, corydoras should be fine for new tank right?

Sorry for your loss. R.I.P.

How many fish do you have as a 26L as it's very small tank.

If the tank cycled and they are healthy add the fish.

Neon tetra need mature tanks of six months.

Sorry i'm tired and struggling tonight to take information in.
If any problems get back to the board.

Good Luck.

A link for you to Columnaris.

26l is too small for neons or cardinals, or indeed dwarf gourami and all the cory species I can think of.

Guppies - errrr, maybe.

A 26l, tbh, I'd only use it for shrimps or a betta.
