I went into this lfs looking for some females to go with the ones I bought today (ill post about that later) and I saw this one betta (male) who was showing the same symtoms as my little Twist when I bought him. I polietly asked to talk to a manger and asked her if I could have him because hes dying. She said yes.
So now I have him at home in a 1/2 gallon tank. The water is not filled up all the way because he is having trouble swimming. He is also breathing very heavy and his fins are not in the greatest condition.
What can I do to help him? I have also put some crombia in his tank so he has something to rest on.
Hes currently laying on the bottom with the odd dart to the surface for air.
Any help would be great.

He is now laying on his side and im very concerned  Should I use Maracyn on him? Thats what I used on Twist.

Hmm, is he laying on his side, or just at the bottom? Is he covered in anything? Any parasites, fungus, etc? I would put in a little salt and macaryn, couldn't hurt.

yeah put salt or macaryn or meilfix and some stress coat
can u describe him though

Ok this betta that I just got right now these are his symtoms - Hes breathing very heavy, having trouble swimming, laying on the ground with his head facing the top of the tank, other times just laying on his side with his whole body on the ground. His fins are also not in the greatest condition.

Twist was doing pretty much the same thing other than the fact that Twist had abit of white stuff on him - Twist is perfectally fine now.

What can I do to help my new betta? Thanks for your help so far ;)

Yes, in that case macaryn, good, warm water, and maybe some salt will do wonders.

Here is a picture of 'magic' Thats what I decided to name him ;)

I know its not the greatest picture as its blury and all.

So I should use Maracyn on him?

I used the maracyn on him. I know Im not going to see results right away but hes still the same...
If anyone has any other suggestions they would be greatly appriciated

I say treat him like you did Twist. Obviously, it's a similar problem.

Twist is swimming fine now, you say? I'm so glad to hear that.

He's a tough little stinker. It's both a good thing and a bad thing! He still lays on his side when he's resting, but, more than not, he swims just fine! So I'd say a reasonable recovery, especially since he's happy, well-adjusted, and regularly flaring at the guy next to him.

Magic has passed on :rip:

Im just wondering though is it normal for him to twitch? Hes not breathing but having the odd tiny twitch. :-(
