I brought a pair of blue rams yesterday and they have settle in just fine. They display to each other, female displays more to the male, but no chasing or fighting.

But, yes there is alway a but. The female has made a hollow in the sand and chases the cories away if they get to close. Is she nesting, for the want of a better word, or just making herself at home?

From my (limited) experience, she is indeed "nesting". My female will start forming the substrate into a depression and chase my cories away before she lays her eggs. She's been doing it today, in fact, so I think I might have some eggs on the way.

Good luck!

Agreed there, i would say nesting is defintly what shes doing as the act of scaring other fish away from the surrounding area is a nesting act, they normally lay on flat surfaces though... like a piece of slate or something similar, however i wouldnt put it past em to make a pit.

One of two thing will happen if she spawns there, after 2 days if the male hasnt fertilised them she will prolly gobble the eggs up herself (this is quite common as rams generally have to make a few attempts at parenthood), the eggs may hatch and then every other fish in the tank will be fighting its way to where the wrigglers are, rams are not the best parents so liklihood is that they probably wont survive in a community tank with other fish circling looking for a live meal.

If you have the means it may be a good idea to move the rams into another tank whilst they spawn.

Well I got my answer just a minute ago. This is what I found :hyper: :

I haven't got another tank, so nature will take it's course. I appreciate the info, it saves me asking.
Thanks

Congratulations!!

Mine did the same, last night. This is my third ram spawn in six weeks, and I too am going to let nature take it's course. Last time the eggs hatched and I had some tiny little babies that disappeared. Hopefully I'll have better luck.

Good luck with your eggs!

Cheers daveamos.

I only got them on Friday and was not expecting eggs so soon. I new it might happen, but three day  :S .
