My main tank is a 20g with 5 platy, 3 guppies and 2 others I can't remember the names but are not live breeders. I have a nursery tank that is 10g and currently has 1 red wag platy (~4 weeks old), ~40 panda platy (4 days old) and 3 ghost shrimp. I also have small breeder tanks for birthing.

I'm seeing where everyone says don't use the breeder tanks because it stresses the mother. So my question is can I put a laboring mom in the nursery tank with all these other fry?

My red wag platy is showing signs of birthing soon, and I don't want the fry lost in the larger tank. Help please.

I would let her give birth in the main tank and catch out any fry you see; she would probably be able to eat the four day old fry.

Can I ask what you're going to do with all these fry?

I haven't figured that out quite yet. Hopefully, one of my lfs will want them.

I agree that the mother to be will try to eat at least a few of the four day old fry.

I think a perfect livebearer set up is a 20ish gallon a 50ish gallon and a friendly willing to take free fish lfs. The big chain stores usually dont but the smaller shops usually do! Even if it is a bit of a drive away its worth it. Im sure they would love to trade some java moss or even pay for panda platy because smaller shops usually dont have them :].

So your next step is the 50ish gallon ;)! And we all need to be trading our platies with eachother id love to have a couple fry from our board members :D.

I would love a male definitely. Keep in touch as they get older?

I want one male also i live in pennslyvania and i dont think thats anywere near were you live

you know what, im not sure i dont think mine will but you never knoew  lets hope so because that would be cool to sare fish even if i cant get in on the action
