Hi everyone,

Just introducing myself as just got the fishkeeping bug.

I've already learnt a lot by looking at the forums
before I got my tank, so I haven't 'touch wood' had too many problems.

This approach seems to have worked for me,

I've had my tank a month now and have cycled it with the 4 platys. I add Nutrafin Cycle and use King British safeguard to condition the water. I have used gravel substrate (2" deep) and planted the tank straight away with real plants including Elodea Densa (growing like mad!), Vallis, Wisteria, & I think Java Fern. I have used TetraPlant crypto root tabs and the plants all seem to be growing ok.

I left the tank for 1 week with no fish and added some bogwood from a friend's established tank. I added the 4 platties a week later and the lemon tetras a fortnight later. I have been testing the water every other day and have been changing 10% of the water ever couple of days but are doing only changing 10% every 5 days now as the tank seems to have settled down.

My readings are now: PH - 7.4
Ammonia - nil
Nitrate - 5/10.0 ppm
Nitrite - nil

I wondered if anyone has any comments, the water reading seem to have leveled off now so I was hoping my tank is now cycled?

Any sugestions of additional fish would be much appreciated as I am not sure what else to put in (probably a fortnight's time). A LFS gave me some advice but I've taken it with a pinch of salt as I think what he said would make my tank overstocked, going by what I have read on these excellent forums.

Once again
