I bought a pair of these, sold as schwartzi but don't seem to be schwartzi as they have the black dorsal fin that extends down onto their body.

Had a look through I Love Corydoras and can't really find these.

Sorry should've added, they look a *bit* like agassizi?

Or bifasciatus? Or leucomelas?

I may come back with more edits *lmao*....

Edit again (see I told you): Could they be corydoras schwartzii "black top"?

Hey, I got a couple of those a week ago (they sold them to me as "spotted corys") and I had the same question! I looked online because I knew there were others that looked like that but I came to the early conclusion of Schwartzi.

Although, I think yours might actually be a Corydoras Leucomelas...And now that I look again I realize that mine was Leucomelas also...

Too bad mine died the day after I got them...I don't understand why, my other corys are doing fine...

I completely agree, it is a C. Leucomelas. It is not uncommon for a petshop to label cories spotted corydoras because there are so many that have very similar patterns to the leucomelas. The spotted cories as they are reffered to in fish stores could be any number of these:

C-133
C-110
C-103
C-87
C-75
C-45
C-44
C-43
C-30
C-18
C. Schwartzi
C. Robustus
C. Pulcher
C. Melanistius
C. Loxozonus
C. Incolicana
C. Evelynae
C. Delphax
C. Brevirostris
C. Crimmeni
C. Leucomelas
C. Agassizii
C. Ambiacus
C. Blochi

As you can see there are alot of corydoras that show very similar patterns to your Leucomelas and alot of fish stores are not going to go to the trouble of finding out just exactly what species they are selling so they use the generic "spotted cory." So a word of warning to any "spotted cory" buyer you could be buying any of the above mentioned fish.

My identification is sometimes off but in this case, I agree C. leucomelas is probably it. The julii species are often trilineatus too. Some species are almost identical except for subtle differences in the patterns on their bodies.

Any ideas what these are then? One's now passed away, but we never got a proper id on them.

It's not important really, I'm just interested :)
