Ive been watching my tank for ages and my bettas fins are clamped together (the fins on the underneath side of his body) his pectorial fins are as well

Im really confused about melafix as i keep reading about people 'overdosing' their tanks with it :/

I cant add salt to my tank because there are some cories in there

What should i do? Ive added melafix but im worried that im making him worse

Does any one know what causes the fins to clamp, its the first time this has happened and im really confused on what to do and why its happened

I know it sounds like im going mad, but i also think he is losing his 'shine' he doesnt seem to be as vibrant and shimmery as he used to be

thanks :-( i feel really bad

taken with mine and my boyfriends mobile phones so sorry about the quality

i think with melafix you have to lower the normal dosage as bettas are sensitive to it but im not 100 % have u done a water check? can u post up your stats?

I dont have my water parameters as i dont have a testing kit

but my water was tested by my LFS 2 days ago and everything was far apart from the nitrites which were over 10

2 days ago i did a 30% water change, and i have just done another 25 - 30% water change

Do you see any fungus on him? Is he eating at all?

Clamped fins could just mean that he's unhappy. Is he in a tank by himself or with other fish?? How's the temp?
He is in a community tank, the temp has fluctuated so much this past week i have done my best to control it but i can, yesterday it went upto 29 degrees and now i think its 26.

4 fish had died in the past 2 days as well

no, no fungus :-( but one of my platies had fin rot which has now developed a fungal infection :(

where in the uk could i get some indian almond leaves? they dont sell them at my LFS

they wont hurt the other fish will they?

Im considering moving him to my 5 gallon once the fry tank to see if he will be happier, my boyfriend swears that the betta doesnt have a problem with being in the community tank as his mum, grandad and auntie all kept bettas in community tanks with no problems

i tried to explain that its down to the individual personality but hes having none of it atm :(

Im going to divide off my 5 gal for 2 bettas once the fry have moved out

Do i also need a filter? i have a small one in there atm which does have quite a current on it, i also have an air stone and some live plants am i right in thinking;

this is my tank (very simple drawing, its a corner tank the line through the middle is the divider)

untitled.jpg

remove filter and do daily water changes?
keep the gravel
remove live plants and replace with silk
get some desert pots (ur idea devil!) and make 2 little caves
buy a 50w heather (instead of the 150w one i have atm)
remove air stone and air line

i honestly believe he would be happier on his own

what can i use to divide the tanks?

Your help is muchos appreciated!!!!

YOU WILL NEED
7 COUNT PLASTIC CANVAS
FILE BINDERS
HACK SAW
TAPE MEASURE
SCISSORS

i got some sheets of plastic canvas from the local wool shop( about 2-3 quid each) and some plastic file binders from the stationary shop (about 1-2 quid for ten).
Measure the size of plastic canvasthat you need and cut it slightly larger as you can always trim it, cut the binders to the height of your tank with a saw and file the edges smooth. Slide the plastic canvas into the file binder 1 at either side, the little bits that you cut off can be used as feet on the bottom of the canvas. then just place where you want it in your tank. i held mine in place with modified metal hair grips

hope this helps

could you post some pics of the finished tank?

Im abit worried that because its a 5 gallon tank, that its going to be hard to do water changes

then again i suppose could use a tumbler and take the water out like that :flex:
