I'm currently and reluctantly closing down tanks and moving fish on to new homes.

I have a 35 litre tank going strong, stuffed with live plants and nothing but a khuli loach and an oto in it which I've decided to keep just to keep the hobby going after my bigger tanks have departed.

So I was thinking a pair of DP's would go nicely in it. However it only currently has one of those cruddy stingray filter jobbies and I'm aware that I would require something a little more substantial for them.

So....

A) Would a pair be ok in this size tank - could I possibly stretch to 3?
B) What size/type of filter should I be looking at - I would prefer some form of external really to leave a bit more space within the tank?
C)Anybody know of a place in the UK to buy DP's from (who will deliver)that I can trust to receive nice healthy fish from?

All help greatly appreciated :good:

Hello! Glad you arent getting rid f all your tanks and also glad that you are getting DPs. I would go for a HOB filter possibly as large as you can get to fit the tank as overfiltration is definately not a problem with these messy feeders. I would also say just two maximum (as this is strecthing already, 3 would definately be a bit much). Ensure to plant heavily and break up those lines of sight.

As to where to get them from, have you a Pets at Home near you by chance? I say this as found some in my local, luckily arrived the day they got them as they were really unsure what to do with them and ended up writing down stuff and giving my number incase they had any queries.

a) One would be optimum, though they are small they are heaped with personality and if you end up with two males or they just dont like each other than it will be a huge problem in a small space, 3 would be a nightmare.
b)Biggest, HOB would not compromise space
c) Pets at home...Maidenhead (got mine originally from here). Have looked at my trusted delivery ones but they do not have at the moment.

EDIT Try tropical fish finder:

Input the name and it will come up with options for delivery.
Here is direct link:

Wildwoods and wholesale tropicals have always been mentioned to me as good reputation. Though ordering on postage will make them expensive.

That's great, very helpful thanks.

Two things though......1. No wayam I ever having any fish from pets at home and 2. Could anyone advise a bit more in depth on which filter to look for? As far as filters are concerned I'm rather clueless

No worries Big eyes! Would you be looking for a HOB one? Or internal? (Just to narrow down!)

Edit:
If going internal I have always used the fluval plus series and a fluval 2 plus dealt with 4 DPS mess, so would imagine a fluval plus one would do the job well for you, but unsure how much space it would take?

HOB - we have the niagara 250 which works well and also a aquaclear series that has done really well even second hand.

Hope that gives a head start?

Otherwise internals only others I know are the stingrays and unsure if they would cope with the mess or not though you could go for the 15g version and it is pretty compact

Sorry to confuse hon, editted above post with the two we have and had personal experience with. The aquaclear one we have is for a 10g the other just having a peek also for 10g

Here is a link to another that read elsewhere lots use and had success with even on marine tanks:

I have an arcadia arc running with a fluval u1 on full and its coping well with 3 dps mess and doesnt take up a huge amount of space and they love playing in the outflow.
hope that helps

Tropical fish 2 your door get your fish from Wholesale Tropicals in the link. I buy my trops from them and have seen the DPs they have in stock - nice little'uns.

I'd go for just two and try and remove your koolie loach as it will be a sitting target for the DPs. The oto you might get away with as they're fast little fish :D
