Another Diy Light Idea...

Alright, I'm looking at starting a nano tank and I know lighting can cost an arm and a leg. I've done my own DIY for my planted tank and it's been going great. I was walking in the lighting area in Wal-Mart and found a 500w Flood Light halogen lamp system for $9. I couldn't find anywhere on the box that stated the color temperature of the bulb.

The fixture looks the same but this one has the power saver CF bulb vice halogen lamp. My biggest concern would be cooling the fixture. Could someone input some comments before I go out and purchase one. Thanks.

Well, if you want a fish-only tank it Might work, but in my experience halogens do not put out enough blue/purple wavelength to sustain anything like corals. Just my $0.02
 
Depends on the individual corals, but usually in the 10k-20k range (blue/purple end of the spectrum)
