ok. iT's getting rediculous now  . I wrote the post the other day asking why my platties die and not my other fish. SOme people said it's platties, others said platties are hardy. I've bought platties from both lfs's (one better than the other) but I've had platties die from both. :sly:
If this is just a platty thing, which i personally think it is. I want to know if guppies are hardier than plattys. OR any other livebearer. I like livebearers coz I want to breed and it's guaranteed with them.

So would I be better buying guppies or something? They cost more so I've never got anymore (My oscar I used to have ate my other pair  )

I've got 1 fm molly. WOuld they be better to keep? Are dalmation males uncommon, the lfs only has fm's all the time.

Please can someone answer these questions  This is just getting rediculous. It's expensive and it makes me sad.

Also. are platties more sensitive to bad water conditions? ie. do I need to constantly clean my tank with them?

thankyou very very much to anyone who can answer all these. :/ ;)

its not the fish

its not u

take ur water to the lfs and have it checked for clorine and nitrates, make sure the ph is between 7 and 8 and dont give up on livebearers.

guppys are hardier but still platties are rely hard and shouldnt be dieing like that, if ur haveing more success with mollys then maybe thatshould keep :D

Despite that platies are supposed to be healthy, I killed more platty than any other species so far - at this point, I have to believe that the stock I purchased are badly bread...

I have over 40 fries bread from my healthy adults and I have yet to kill any of them. So how come the ones I purchase from the store get killed much more easily? And they die in a tank where bristlenoses breed...

probably has sumthin to do with bad stock, sum lfs dont care for their fish very well so they are very prone to disease while the babys born in ur tank are new and are being cared for properly.

SUSHI

I have just started keeping tropical fish and started with Platties as was told they were hardy fish.

One of the fish shops where I live said that Platties have good strains and over bred strains so I think that maybe you just hard a bad strain of Platty.

Keep trying to bred Platties as I have 5 Fry that have survived and they are great to watch grow.

Guppy's are quite easy to bred aswell!!

Keep trying

George

right now i have 2 platys and 5 mollies (though i only use my mollies for breeding) but i've realized that they both are hardy fish. i have lost about 3 mollies in the process but you will get some sickly fish sometimes.

don't give up cause you've had some bad luck with them. i suggest that when you look for your new fish, to watch them for a few days (and their tankmates) and see how they are. this will give you a better idea about the fish. also, if one in the tank is dead or sickly, think twice if you want one out of this tank.

from my experience, mollies are more sensitive to water conditions (bad) and you would notice a change in them than any other fish. i don't think that platys tanks need to be cleaned/maintained more that any other fish. my platys are in with my mollies.

good luck with the platys(if you decide to stick with them)

ps dalmation mollies (males) are not uncommon. you could also try looking for a prego platy also. :D
