I've been wanting to upgrade to larger tanks for the bettas in 1 gallon tanks. Mostly so I can put heaters in them--the temp isn't as warm as I'd like (stays right around 70°). I was planning to buy some angel fish for my community tank, but I was watching the fish tonight and plotting. What do you think about this arrangement instead:

*40 gallon community tank - 4 otos, 4 julii cory cat fish, 5 rasbora harlequins, five sibling females, Mercedes (female), and 3 to 5 new females. I'd add some more plants and caves.
*Split current female 10 gallon into two sections, one side for Barracuda and one side for Challenger (male bettas).
*Put Porsche into the new 2.5 gallon tank.
*Leave George in his 6 gallon tank.
*Leave Mustang in his 1 gallon tank for now -- he's not very active -- buy another 2.5 gallon tank later for him.

orrr, you could split the ten three ways, put george in there, try the girls in the six- leaving room for angels. Just a thought, the girls might not work out though (you know them best) and George may not appreciate losing his six gallon pad  Your first idea is probably best.

Lol bet they'll enjoy having the extra room. I swapped my dwarf puffer pair into Twilights tank and he into theirs. He was so sad and bored in his tank. Now he's next door to Mystery, another male betta he's much happier. They spend lots of time flaring at each other and floating bubbles on the surface. They're both still young so no full nests yet. Although they are trying. They have 5g tanks each.
Personally I'd say your idea is best. My girls live in a 44g and love it.
Hugs,
P.

I moved all the females to the 40 gallon tank. So far Mercedes is trying to convince the others that she's in charge--she was not part of their sorority tank previously. They are plakats, I'm not sure what she is, possibly a delta. So far they don't seem to be stressed. I added more plants and caves. They are totally ignoring the corys, rasoras, and otos. They look good in the larger tank

I moved one of the males into the 10 gallon vacated by the girls. Because of recent news of bettas jumping the dividers, I decided not to divide it into two. I moved Porsche into the new 2.5 gallon tank. That leaves just Barracuda and Mustang left in the 1 gallon tanks (for now).
