Well, bought some wood the other day from a pet shop, soaked it in water and changed the water after a day, the water didn't go brown a little bit.
Put it in my tank, guess what? After 5 hours it looks like someone has put about 50 teabags in it-.-

It's probably harmless tho. Your fish might even prefer it. A few decent water changes should start to clear it.

Just change the water regularly and it should dilute a bit. But to make it not as bad, stick it in the bucket and change the water until it goes away

you should soak it for at least a week in warm water before putting it in the tank, but as zuulan said, its harmless and some fish do prefer it

Well, last time I did it the water in the bucket came up brown straight away, but grrr-.-

I personally would buy new wood every month just to get this effect. There is something really invigorating about a murky tank of just sand and wood, some say a shoal of natural coloured angels (not these commercial koi skin bleh), and a huge group of neons, green neons, yes :)

But, its not to some peoples taste. Atleast it is completely harmless to your fish, and as mentioned - some prefer it!

I miss my tannin filled water :( clean water is just not the same

I have a piece of Mopani wood in a bucket, it's been soaking a month now with regular warm water changes & it's still staining the water

I like my tea black....

Off topic but hey.

If it bothers you that much, take it and place it in a bucket untill the bucket water stays clear, no?

my bogwood lump was soaked in boiling water for 2 weeks. It stopped turning the water brown after about a week and a half. I added it to the tank but I'm still syphoning light brown water every week. It could go on like this for 6 month or more - or so I was told on here.

I don't mind the brown water - it looks more natural

It will take months before your water is clear! Why not buy a pre-used piece off of Ebay? You can even buy them with live plants attatched and they wont stain your water.

Activated carbon helps, remove/replace it every few days until the water clears. Combine with water changes, some wood only stains for a couple of weeks, other wood much longer. No pain, no gain!!
