I have decided it is time for another betta. Eddie and his dwarf frog are getting along splendid. (they only once scuffled when Frog came up for air and ruined Eddie's beautiful nest.)

I have my one gallon tank all ready and dechlorinated, clean and nice. The light is on to raise the temperature and by the time I shower and go pick one out and bring him home, the tank should be wonderful. The new betta wont have a frog, since it's quite small quarters, so I'll be getting him a tiny snail. Not too tiny, I don't want him to eat it! haha. But tiny enough.

Hopefully he'll enjoy his new home! I'll update when he's arrived!

VICTOR is home and settling in! I went all over town looking for the perfect Betta Fishy.

Petsmart was my first stop as my LFS was closed. :( Petsmart had one pretty little boy all packed into his cup and flaring frantically at his neighbor and then me when I picked him up. He was reddish and blue. I decided to look around since he was the only healthy looking one and that couldn't be a very good sign.

I stopped next at a small pet shop called World-Of-Pets. The minute I walked in, I was taken aback by their vast array of fish products. The whole right side of the store was dedicated to fish! Saltwater and fresh. They had a huge 'pond' that had stingrays and sharks swimming in it, all dark and stuff with windows to look through. It was amazing! I went looking for betta cups but I should have known better! These bettas were treated with care! They were in their own little divided tanks! They were mutts of course, as this wasn't a specialty store, but what great mutts they were!

I picked out the one for me. He was red, pink, and a clearish white. Tranclucent. GORGEOUS. He just came in the night before. The guy said "I knew he wouldn't last long" and packed the betta in a big bag for me. I brought him home and got him all accustomed to his water and dropped him in. Now he's swimming around and getting to know the place. He's so beautiful! I'll take pictures when I get a chance.

Hey, Dreaded, you don't happen to live in the Greenville, SC area do ya?I've got a World of Pets here that is exactly as you describe. If so, I'd be a bit leery of them.
They tend to have a lot of dead fish in their tanks and about a month ago I swear at least 75% of their fish showed signs of the ich. I used to love going there, but when I saw how they'd let all their fish get so sick, I found myself a new LFS. (Wanted to cut down on the risk of my little guys catching something from the newbie, since I didn't have a quarintine tank at the time.) I will admit though, I still like the guppies I got from them and the aquatic plants I purchased there have down fairly well.

Hmm...maybe they've improved. I really could use some good aquatic plants and they're the only place I know of right now that has/had a fairly healthy selection... (insert the sound of grinding gears as Laughncat contemplates a bad idea... )

Well, my petsmart has plants, but those are utterly nasty with cockroach like bugs in the tank

Yes, Laughncat, I do live in Greenville, SC! I went to the WOP on Woodruff Rd. I checked out all the tanks before I bought my betta, and there were very few dead fish that I saw. I didn't see any diseased fish in the tank with my betta. I was concerned about one betta in a five gallon that was pretty dirty looking and had some snails in it. But that was all. I doubt they'll be as good as a FS, specializing in fish, but I'd say for a pet shop, they were doing well. And Victor is settling in. He's active and happy and his fins aren't torn or ripped at all.

Pet Smart on Laurens Rd. is a real turn off for me. Their plants are nasty and their tanks are rarely clean. MANY dead fish, and plenty of fish packed together.

I was impressed with WOP, but I will be careful and heed your warnings, just in case.

Dunno if you can post pics on this board, but here's Victor! If not, Ill post the link for his picture.

Yeah! I was so excited to find him! Usually I can only find Blues and reds. I was so happy! He's a flourecent Pinkish color on his body, with red fins, red head, and then tranclucent white on the ends of his tail and anal fins. I had to be careful not to take a picture by the plant or youd think his fins were green! haha
