It seems to me that either there is a general section INCLUDING somewhere for members announcements, or there is NO general section at all.
I dont really see how deleting the whole general section because you cant have your announcements section is going to help, nor is it exactly fair.
I think its a bit selfish to be honest, just because youve realised that we cant have an announcements section you start changing tactic and go on about how all the other "general" forums should be brought down with it. Youve realised that an announcments section would bring more bad than good, so now the topic has changed to picking out tiny little disfunctionalities in the other sections, like the AIBO thing, i didnt really understand the point of that, it was one incident, i can see sooooooo many more happening with a "general announcements" forum, which would be just as good as bringing back "general chat", as announcements could be anything political, religious, and it could be on any such topics in the news, which are all pretty much controversial, and with thousands of active members on the forum, with many different backgrounds, its bound to bring up arguments that just mirror what happened in the general chat section.
Household pets, not much can go wrong there, despite the whole AIBO thing, that was one thread, and if thats all that you can think of then...
non fish pictures....well....what can i say really, its just looking at other people photographs, and i dont see why such announcements can be posted in there, especially when they already come with pictures, i realise one such thread has already been rightfully moved there.
Buy, sell and swap, technically, this isnt really a general forum, and although there is the occasional squabble, its not exactly going to get personal and end up in a political row is it.
board announcements and suggestions, well i dont think anyone really has a problem with this forum since youre using it
and all of the general hobbies, as said by CFC, are there because the deletion of general chat wasnt fair on the people who talked about such hobbies and they werent the cause of the arguments, i think thats obviously proof that it is ok to keep there in itself as the mods obviously came to that conclusion with evidence.
Lets see what would happen if we threw an announcements section in there, someone announces some religious topic in there, there is a massive argument of opinions on the matter, same with politics, technically news about politics is an announcement surely?
Now going by the above quote we are now discussing bringing back general chat (im finding it hard to keep up here) or nothing at all. going by that im presuming that the whole "line" thing is out of the discussion as otherwise this would conflict your argument about the forum being too "picky" and that you want it "all or nothing". Of course with a completely free general chat section as you are now suggesting the lists are endless for arguments.
