Angry Pet Store Worker

my earlier posts made me remember something i did when i was around 10 years old...

the 17 gallon that i have for my 2 kribs used to have 2 small 2" bala sharks and a common pleco and lots of guppys, a 5 inch weather loach and many other fish that i cant remember, but the worst part was, i got a 6 inch bala shark from my sisters friends mom and housed it in that tank for about a month untill i put it in a coldwater pond i made outside (it died in a few minutes)

i am so glad i took that tank down... poor fish

none of the petstores i went to asked me anything about my aquarium or other inhabitants.

Awful situation to be put in. I suspect I would have flat out refused and fetched the manager. Some people are true idiots.
I can remember my lfs telling me I could have 30 fish in my 15g tank when I first started out. They told me to fill my new tank with water and leave it for 3 days then I could add fish.....no mention of cycling the tank. I did lose fish and they refused to reimburse as my water stats showed high ammonia. Duh! Was a long time ago but I learnt a valuable lesson that day. Never trust business employees. Go to the experts.....I came to forums such as this. :good:

rothenb1, I would have refused the sale.

I work for a large chain pet store and specialise in aquatics. Although there are various travesties on the animal welfare front at the store (goldfish sold into 10 litre tanks, etc), they always tell us never to sell if we're not confident that the customer can look after the welfare of the animal. When it is clear (as in your case) that the customer has no knowledge of how to keep fish properly and a really selfish attitude towards fishkeeping, we can simply say no.

I know how hard these situations are to deal with (I'm been pressured into sales I didn't want to make and then felt awful about it) but learning to say no is really important.

Trust your instincts and always err on the side of caution.
