Hello again! I'm writing this for my friend who has 2 convicts that recently had babies. Around 2 weeks ago the convicts eggs hatched and little fry were sticking close to the mother and father. around 1 week later all the babies dissapeard and the male became very angry and wouldnt stop chaseing the female. Why is this happening and what should my friend do?

Male convicts often bully/beat-up their partner despite mating with them. They're the wife beaters of the fish world! I currently have my male and female convict seperated as he is constantly bullying her into laying eggs. Once she becomes timid or injured she then becomes a target. Tell your friend to seperate the pair, keep the fry with their mother and let her rebuild her strength & re-introduce. See how it goes. Also, the deaths could be due to the fry being in the territory of the larger male! Despite them being good parents the tempation of an easy meal is all too much.

Best of luck, Tom
