i have had an angel fish in my tank for about a month now and i got him a friend tonight and hes pecking at him. what does this mean? should i be concerned about this?

You should be concerned if the new arrival is stressed by the actions (hidng in the corner, gasping, pale, etc.). Angels are cichlids, and like most cichlids can be very intolerant of their own kind (cichlids are, by nature, not friends). If it looks like aggression is getting out of hand you will need to move the new fish. The best way to introduce a friend to the one you have is to get a few angels and let a pair form (these fish are monogomous and form reliable relationships).

he was hiding somewhat but not as much... hes coming out now and the agression has calmed down. i think the older one was just telling the new one that this was his turf and letting the newer one know that he was dominant. if it gets to out of hand i will get a divider but i doubt it will.

You could also try rearranging the tank to eliminate established territories. Put the 2 angels in seperate containers, switch the decorations & such, then add them back in.

actually i did do some rearranging. i took a plastic plant out and moved the other ones around and also moved the decorations around. they seem to be getting along better. theyre at least swimming together now.

That's a good sign, they were probably just figuring out the pecking order.

how long has your new angel been in the tank for? it could just be that he is a little stressed after being put in a new home, and then experiencing a little bullying. just watch him over the next few feeds, to see if he does eat a little.
is he very active in the tank?
