Hi,
Will angels and hatchets get on OK. I have heard one tale of angels biting hatchets to death. Obviously I would like to avoid this. Has anyone managed this combo with no problems?

I have successfully kept angels and hatchets in the same tank, and there wasn't even a lot of competition at feeding time. The angels generally inhabit the mid level of the tank, whereas hatchets reside nearer the surface. I did eventually split them up, as I had a pair of angels, and they are a massive problem if they decide to lay eggs, chasing anything they see as an direct threat (i.e. anything that moves)

I would avoid this combo. Hatchets are prone to being bullied and nipped especialy because they aren't particularly active and never realy leave the top layers so their body is always exposed to attack from below. Putting angels in with hatchets would be asking for trouble as angels can get quite nippy at times and are aggressive fish when breeding or simply in a bad mood. Though it might work for a while, I don't think this possibility is worth risking the lives of the fish.

The poor hatchets would never see it coming, thus not be able to evade any aggression from the angels. Sylvia is right about the risking their lives part. It's a matter of when, not if the hatchets would get torn up.
