I've read the pinned article on Angel breeding but I still have a question:

The angels in my community tank just spawned and are now fanning the eggs and chasing all the other fish away. If I want to remove the eggs to try to raise them do I just pull the eggs straight out and put them in another tank? What are the parents likely to do?

If I decide not to try to get the eggs to hatch, should I remove the eggs anyway to stop the Angels chasing and possibly harming other fish?

Thanks.

Pull them straight out, they will act a bit confused. Toss in some food & they will forget about it. Removing the spawn will make them act less aggressive towards tankmates.

Thanks for your prompt reply, tolak.

OK, done. I decided to have a go at getting some fry (the parents are a diamond scale and a koi, so they could be interesting). I just set up my spear tank and put the leaf with the eggs in it.

I just have one question: do I need an airstone under the eggs, as per you pinned article, or with the current from the HOB filter I'm using be enough? If so should I position the eggs underneath the outlet?

Thanks,
Nick.

Just thought I'd add some photos.

Nice one. I think if mine spawn every nine days someone's going to lose an eye. The mum is all tattered and bruised and the 3rd angel, not part of the breeding pair, is battered and frightened.

Keep me updated with what your fry look like.

Cheers.

The hob will work, you will need to have a piece of foam over the intake to prevent the fry from being sucked in. Screen isn't fine enough, they will go right through.

You will need to get a bbs hatchery going, give it a test run for a day or two before you have swimmers.

All done, now I just wait for wrigglers!

Thank for the advice.

i believe at this point in time you could add methyl blue to minimise the risk of fungus on the eggs. eggs that turn white are dead and should be removed. healthy eggs remain yellow and translucent.

OMG i can't believe i've been so blind all this time! your female angel (the platinum one) looks AWESOME! LIKE OMG LOVELY!

I was about to say, that white angel is absolutely beautiful - their fry will be stunning - please keep us updated with your progress!
