Can anyone tell me whether angelfish are better in pairs or solo??

as they're pretty hard to sex - would there be any problems if i ended up with 2 males??

are there any benefits to keeping two together or are they just as happy alone?

sorry for all the questions!

Thanks

together:
1. more company for your angels
2. nicer to look at
3. if you're lucky, you'd have a pair = more angels!

alone:
1. you do not face the risk of aggression
2. no competition or what so ever = suppositely healthier

these are more or less the advantages, i may have left out some. imo i prefer pairs or more, even numbers to be exact. there's no real harm keeping them alone though.

yea, i tend to keep all my fish in pairs (unless there's an obvious reason why i shouldnt!) but wasn't sure whether it was advisable or not with angels!

Would two males or two females fight if they were together do you know??

Thanks

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering about it too, since the ones I'm eyeing at the lfs are in different tanks (a koi and a marble) and sexing is so hard anyway.

Two females and two males will fight just the same as a male and a female. They even have a chance of pairing up (of course no babies will come out of it)! How big is the aquarium? These guys can be kept by themselves or in pairs, so depending on what you are stocking, and how big the tank is, you may be better off with 1 or 2.

theoratically, aggression is kinda eased out among angels as the number increases. but then again things may worsen if an individual is being ganged up against.

Discuslova - I'm looking into getting a 55 gal (according to the think fish calculator) - its 36.5x15.5x22.5
