Hi My Angelfish has developed some raised (almost spikey) white protrusions that almost look like worms that could be plucked out with tweezers. They are around his eyes and head I've tried to get a picture.- see link below. There are quite a few and a bit of redness too. He is feeding as normal and still lively. He is spending quite alot of time near the heater. We have not added any new fish or had any problems/deaths for a long time (several months/ 1 year). His gills look a bit 'hollow/inverted' but his breathing is normal I think. (I say he - it could be a she for all I know!)

I've added melafix at the suggested dose for a few days - not really any change. Can anyone suggest what this might be - Ive looked all over teh web but can't find photos or descriptions that quite match whats going on. I'd be so grateful of someone can help - we've done so well with our fish recently I just don't know what has gone wrong! Thanks

I've just been reading a post about this, and this looks like what your fish has on it...

is it possible you can get some clearer pics?
could be a parasitic infection but id be inclined to think it is the beginning of HITH disease (hole in the head disease)
it started on my oscar as little white mounds which then went leaving pitting on the face, these holes then get bigger if not treated.

what are your water stats in nitrite nitrate and ammonia please? HITH can often be associated with poor diet and bad water.

Yes, does sound like Hole in the Head disease. Can try treating it with Octozin. It can spread to other fish in the tank if left untreated.

Athena

can also be treated with esha Hexamita.
some studies show just keeping the water in tip top pristine condition will also fight the disease but with something like this id would err on the edge of caution and use a med too!

yes i agree it sounds like HITH

I had to go to my vet for the meds which are called metronidazole, bathed him in it daily and did large daily water changes to keep the water spotless.
