Thanks for your response and suggestions.
To answer the questions, both fish were in a 55G tank for the past 6-7 months. They have since been placed in separate quarantine tanks for the past 3-4 weeks. The 55G tank has live plants, river gravel and sand, nothing sharp that could have caused injury. The angel and ram don’t have the same illness.
I realised that it’d be hard to tell what the problems were from the photos, the reason why I had them in different tanks for observation and did not post sooner.
The angelfish didn’t show any sign of distress, it still doesn’t. I only realised the problem when the croaking gouramis started picking at it. As much as I don’t like the gouramis’ behaviour, I now think they give an early warning sign. The angel then developed minor fin rots while in the Q tank but that has now been treated and I’m starting to think whatever on its body might be associated with fin rots. I’ll leave it in the Q tank for a few more days before releasing back into the main tank. If the gouramis leave it alone, I’ll consider all is good.
The ram is a different story. I’ve lost 2 BRs and 1 Bolivian ram in the past 5 months, they have similar disease. It started with either some kind blister under a single scale, or what looks like a small bump on the head. It then developed into ulcer within a week to 10 days, and the fish went downhill from there very quickly. This female is different, as whatever disease it is, it remains fairly stable for the past 3 weeks or so.
Apart from the rams I haven’t lost any other fish in the 55G tank since I had it up and running.
Anyway, unless someone has rams which developed similar problem it would not be possible to offer any opinion. I didn’t feel that my posts were being ignored by members, if the message in my posts suggest otherwise, that was not my intention.
I’d better stop here. Thank you all again.
