Now I know it would be extremely rare for angelfish to be successful with breeding in a community tank, but I would like to hear from others.

I have a pair who have laid eggs five times now. They will lay them in the day, and fan and guard the eggs constantly. However as soon as the lights go out in the tank they eat the eggs. Does anyone know why they would do this? I am not bothered but just curious and interested in their behaviour.

It might not be the angel fish. i witnessed my rummy nose tetras eating my discus eggs one by one when my discus came to feed and left the eggs unguarded :-( maybe you could try putting some plastic mesh over the eggs so they can fan them and take care of them but not eat the eggs :good:

No it is definitely the angels, and the male one mostly, i have watched him do it.

My pair would spawn al the time I for free swimmers. It's not rare they are easy to breed if you have a good pair. The problem is that it's common for them to eat the eggs and when that happens it's hard to raise them you know.

Raising baby angelfish is not hard, you just have to feed them baby brine shrimp that you hatch yourself.
And you need to do water changes for the fry twice a day.
