Hi, We have hatched some angelfish fry and they have been free swimming for about a day now. We have put baby brine shrimp in the tank and about 20-30 minutes later we try to siphen them out. Every time we siphen, we get 100's of little babies in the bucket. We sit there with a turkey baster and put them back in the tank. We have tried moving the fish but they always stay torwards the bottom. We have also tried putting fine mesh over the end of the siphen but the siphen just sucks the fry to it. Is there anyway to siphen the tank without gettting all of the fry? They are in a ten gallon tank with an airstone and a sponge filter. Thanks for any input.

Use a piece of airline tubing to syphon. You will always get a few, but much less than larger tubing. Try shining a light on one end of the tank, They will either swim towards the light or away, leaving you a fish free area to syphon.

Try wiping the bottom with a paper towel. Just go slow & they will scoot out of the way. You will get the leftover bbs & some of the bacteria off the bottom this way, along with moving the fry out of the way of some of the leftovers. try syphoning then.

I put a small panda cory in the fry tank to take care of most of the uneaten bbs. They don't bother the fry at all.
